Su-Young Kim (b.1971) received a BFA from the Seoul National University Fine Art Program in 1994 and an MFA from the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf studying under Professor Siegfried Anzinger and Professor Daniel Buren in 2004. She also completed study at the Hochschule fur Bildende Kunste Braunschweig studying under Professor Nobert Tadeutz. Selected solo exhibitions include ONE AND J. GALLERY, Kumho Museum, Alternative Space LOOP in Seoul, Korea, Villa de BANK, in Enschede, Nederland. Selected group exhibitions include Seomi & Tuus Gallery, Arko Museum, Busan Museum of Modern Art, National Museum of Contemporary in Korea. The subject of her paintings are apartments and high rise buildings, their repetitive reflections and colors create unique compositions more akin to conceptualization than what is concrete. While her works depict buildings the results, with their unique composition, colors and mirroring effect, are more of an abstraction of geometrical lines and planes with conceptual signs. This creates a compelling interplay between the concrete and the abstract. Su-Young Kim's works were recently acquired by UBS for their corporate collection. She is represented by ONE AND J. GALLERY in Seoul.  Su-Young Kim lives and works in Seoul.
