Hae-Jun Jo
Hae-Jun Jo (b. 1972 Jeonju) graduated from Wonkwang University in 1998 with a BFA, and from the Master's program at the The Korea National University of Media Arts in 2006. One of the oral statement drawing series, "Amazing father", which was shown in The Battle of Visions in Kunsthalle Darmstadt in October 2005, shows suppression and resistance of popular arts in South Korea from 1980 to 1990. The work reviving the phases of the times related to popular arts with pieces of histories orally handed down was reorganized through interviews with activists in those days into 22 oral statement drawing series representing activities and incidents of Korean popular arts in the 1980's. Jo's works have shown in group exhibitions throughout the world, including the 2003 Yangguang Canlan 陽光燦爛: Korean Contempory Art, Biz Art in Shanghai and the 2006 Young Artists at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Korea. Haejun Jo lives and works in Seoul and Berlin.
