Hein-Kuhn Oh
Hein-Kuhn Oh (b. 1963 Seoul) received a BFA in photography from the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, and an MFA in photography and cinema from Ohio University, in Columbus, Ohio. Oh's photograph series of singer, actors, middle-aged married women, and girls evoke the traditional black and white portrait form, but instead of taking portraits of the subjects as they look, he captures their exaggerated poses and expressions, highlighting their self-consciousness at their intentional 'acting'. Selected exhibitions include: the 1st Taipei Biennial, the 4th Gwangju Biennale, the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, Kommunale Gallery in Berlin and La Galerie de Montpellier in France. Hein-Kuhn Oh lives and works in Seoul.
